BLRS Launch New Season Of Field Trips And Seminars

The British Land Reclamation Society has launched a new series of field trips and seminars for 2013 and will be kicking it off with a packed day of talks and field trips around Corby (11th June 2013).  The day will focus on the Urban Regeneration of Corby and will include presentations and on Woodland Restoration and landscaping in the area and the flagship recreational development of the Rockingham Motor Speedway.  In addition, our guest speaker will also be Mike Smith who will be presenting on soil sampling techniques.

Following on from the Corby field trip, the BLRS then head to the recently refurbished conference facility at the Environment Agency Midlands Region HQ in Solihull.  This will be a breakfast meeting (0800-1000) jointly hosted by the BLRS and the Environment Agency and will feature talks on flood defence, climate change and associated planning issues and also on groundwater contamination and protection, regulation under Part 2A and the planning process.  The date for this seminar will be run on the 5th July 2013.  This seminar is free to members and local authority staff (£20 to non members).

Another field event is planned for 2nd October 2013 and this will take in 3 current Opencast Coal sites in the north east of England.  The field visit will also include a guide tour of “The Lady of the North” 46 acre community park.  Further details will be provided nearer to the day.

Other breakfast seminars that are in development include Asbestos in Soil, Ground Gas issues and Soil Sampling.  In addition, a further Autumn field trip is planned which will take in 3 Opencast Coal sites in Northumberland (late September).
